Klein Curaçao, an adventurous road trip and Sea Aquarium Park

The trip in Curaçao took us to an uninhabited island called ‘Klein Curaçao’. By the way, if you missed my previous article, then you can click on this link: Palm trees, beaches and the sun in Curaçao.

Klein Curaçao
Anyway, we’ve booked a complete inclusive day trip to Klein Curaçao. At half past 7 the bus was in front of our hotel to take us to the quay of the Fisherman’s Pier. From ‘Spanish Water’ we’ve sailed a boat for 1,5 hours and that was very heavy, because we were sitting on top of the boat, we’ve felt the boat shaking heavily which caused us seasickness. Finally we went downstairs, because we couldn’t take it anymore. I apologize for the detail, but I wanted to share my experience with you. So take on time a seasickness pill and watch the horizon in the middle of the boat. Despite this, the outward journey was very worth it, because once I saw the island, I couldn’t believe my own eyes. It was as if I ended up in a paradise.

Klein Curaçao is about 25 kilometers away from the end of ‘grote Curaçao’ which is in the far southeast coast. It’s an uninhabited island with white sand beaches, crystal clear water, a brilliant coral reef that is inhabited by dazzling flora and fauna. Once we arrived, we had breakfast first and later on we explored the island. While we had fun, a member of the crew made us an extensive BBQ lunch and that was seriously delicious! After lunch we went together with someone for a snorkel tour to see turtles. I haven’t seen one by myself, but my boyfriend did. Time few by and the boat was already ready for departure. The return went much better, because there was tailwind. While enjoying a rum punch, we could enjoy the quiet return.

Road trip
We hired a car for a day and we drove to the direction of ‘Westpunt’. Meanwhile we went to other bays such as: Cas Abao, Santa Cruz, Lagun, Forti, Kenepa Grandi en Kenepa Chiki.

Cas Abao
Cas Abao offers white sands, crystal clear waters, swaying palms, shady parasols and tropical reefs.

Santa Cruz
A wide beach that surrounds a palm grove where the water is tainted. Hereby it’s hardly suitable for snorkeling, whereby it does attract many birds. Thereby there are ideal possibilities to watch birds.

A beach that is often visited by the local people. It’s a pretty small island. The fishermen were daily here and returned with delicious fresh fish. Those fresh fish are sold by the fishermen on the beach.

The sand here was a bit more rough and darker and there were quite a lot of stones when you walked into the sea. My boyfriend jumped from a 12 metre high rock. He found it kickass! On top of the rock we’ve had a delicious chicken salad at Blue View Sunset Terrace. In my opinion it was so far the best I had.

Kenapi Grandi en kenapi Chiki
Also known as the ‘Groot en klein knip’. These are the best-known beaches with its stunningly beautiful vistas and spectacular sunsets. Surrounded by high rocks. It has beautiful white sand who offers great snorkeling, calm blue waters, and an intimate atmosphere.

Once we arrived in Westpunt, we drove back. It’s easy to drive around in Curaçao and thanks to the app maps.me, we could use the navigation offline.

Sea Aquarium Park
In the aquarium are many different kinds of fishes and other sea animals such as sea horses. There are several shows like feeding flamingos, feeding nurse sharks, a seal show, a dolphin show and the whiptail stingray’s encounter where you could feed and caress the animals under supervision. There was also a submarine where you could see the sharks, turtles, rays and so on from the surface on the bottom. Personally I was somewhat disappointed by the park, because we’ve had seen everything within 10 minutes. But I liked the seal show and dolphin show the most. In this park you could eat delicious pizza at Limoncello with a nice view.

We had a very good time in our vacation in Curaçao. Is it worth it to come back? Absolutely! I would like to have my stay again at Sunscape. The staff is super friendly. Also there’s a lot that you can do during the day and in the evening. The private beach is ideal and the food was not that bad at all.

So how was your vacation this year?
