13 places to visit in Bali

A sun-sea-beach vacation, an adventurous tour or a vacation where you look for your identity. It doesn’t matter to me what kind of vacation I’m looking for, because there will always be something if you go to Bali. This island stole my heart, from the beginning till the end. An island where a relaxed atmosphere is, loving people and where you can do everything. The island might be small size wise, but her reputation is tremendous. There are kilometers of beaches, magic temples and mystical dance performances. Travelling in Bali means acquainted with the magnificent culture, delicious food and for the rest only enjoy. Selemat Berlibur!
Me and my sister have travelled together for 13 days, where after I explored 4 days Den Pasar and surroundings. During our journey together, we’ve been to several places, where we stayed in Cangu, Ubud, Seminyak and Den Pasar. In this article I’ve collected the 13 most awesome sightseeing’s that are worth it to visit.
  1. Butterfly Park in Tabanan

A very beautiful park full tropical butterflies! In the middle of the garden is a cottage where butterflies hatch. If you would like to have a guide, then there is a staff member who likes to tell you the process of caterpillar to butterfly. If you want to, the butterflies can also be put on you, like the barong butterfly in the photo ;). Next to the location for the butterflies, is a small museum where you can find stuffed butterflies, crickets, scorpions and so on. The park is pretty small, because after 15 minutes you’re already standing outside.

  1. Jatiluwih in Tabanan

One of the most beautiful and biggest landscapes that I’ve ever seen in Tabanan. A rice terraces surrounded with a fresh atmosphere. Planting rice is done by local people by hand. Enjoy by walking through the rice-fields and when you’re once standing on the mountain, it’s only enjoying the view. It’s so ZEN, wonderful!

  1. Tanah Lot in Tabanan

This a temple that lies on the sea, where hundreds of tourists gather to watch one of the most breathtaking sunset. Tanah Lot is located only 15 km away from downtown Tabanan. Unfortunately me and my sister couldn’t see it, because we arrived too late and the weather was bad. Entrance was free!

  1. Colek Pamor Waterfall in Singaraja

The staff from Ngeluwungan Boutique Villa describe this place as a secret waterfall. That is kind of right, because there were no tourists. The waterfall is in Singaraja. That’s 2 hours driving from Canggu. To reach the waterfal, you have to walk a lot, climb, walk over rocks and cross over through a bamboo bridge, but the result was amazing!

  1. Campuhan Ridge Walk in Ubud

A beautiful walk in the nature what takes you approximately 1 hour. During the walk, you come across a nice restaurant where you can enjoy good food with a view of the beautiful rice-field. Also you will pass a number of temple complexes. The path is straightforward and it’s a fairly challenging hike to the top! The first part is the most beautiful I think. On top of the ridge unfolds a beautiful view of the river bed and when it’s clear, the volcano Agung.

  1. Saraswatie Temple Ubud

This temple belongs to one of the most beautiful temples in my list. The lotus pond with the temple in the background creates a resting place in the middle of the hectic Ubud. The temple is beautifully situated on a pond full of flowers. However, the temple is only open for ceremonies. Luckily you can drink tea near the water and enjoy quietly.

  1. Goa Gajah; Elephant Cave Ubud

Although the site of the temple isn’t very large, it’s still worth taking a look. This temple is accessible by stairs. It’s a beautiful temple with a cave where an elephant head is shown. A real highlight is the natural environment. At the entrance you get a sarong if you don’t have it yet. Behind the cave there is a natural spring water called Petirtaan. The seven images Widyadara-Widyadari that hold the pots, symbolize the seven holy rivers in India, the birthplace of Hinduism and Buddhism, where this cave was created for.

  1. The Tirta Empul Temple

A beautiful temple to see, but especially beautiful and interesting to see the sacrificing people. The special water portion of this holy water temple is that the locals are all plunging into the water. They purify themselves for their health and happiness. Next to it are a multitude of ceremonies at the same time engaged in the actual temple. There is therefore much to see in this beautiful temple. Both men and women get a sarong at the entrance, because bare knees are taboo.

  1. Tirta Tangga; water palace

A royal garden with many ponds where many fish are to see in the pond. Nice to walk on stones in the water. It is small, but you can take beautiful photos. This place is especially offered for married couples to take beautiful photos.

  1. Uluwatu temple in Badung

Also known as the Pura Luhur Uluwatu. It’s a beautiful temple on the south-western edge of a limestone cliff that is surrounded by a forest. Also in this temple you get a sarong at the entrance. In conclusion, there is a Kecak dance which I found special to see. It’s a dance based on the Ramayana, illustrating where Sita is kidnapped and Ram will save her. The person who played Hanuman cooperated with the audience and brought a comic element in the show. During the show, some people ran away, but the end is definitely worth a look.

  1. Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park in Badung

A park where they started in 1997 and are still working on the development of a cultural park. There are two legendary images Vishna and Garuda, which are fun to watch. The view of the island is beautiful and keeps you busy for a while. Balinese dances are beautiful to see and they do a dance every hour. It’s impressive to see how the project is given shape.

  1. Art Centre in Denpasar

In the art center is once a year, for a month an art / cultural festival. From all areas of the province there are music groups, dance performances and other cultural groups perform. These performances take place outdoors or in the indoor theater. Around the festival is a big bazaar with hundreds of stands. If there is no festival, it’s like walking through the park and you can visit several stands with home crafts.

  1. Melasti Beach in Badung

A hidden gem that isn’t frequented by tourists. Definitely worth a look to make beautiful photos or just to enjoy the view and beach. For this, there will be a separate article, where I want to show you more of the area and share my experience with you regarding to my photo shoot with Theo Widharto.
